# Video tape " Bij de beesten af " by Bert Haanstra (1.20 to 1.30 is the point). It’s a YouTube video with subtitles.

Every human being reacts according to his own frame of reference.

Frame of reference:
The set of values and norms to which a person lives, thinks and feels.
The construction of this comes from: upbringing, experiences, feelings, ideas and prejudices. In other words, a frame of reference has to do with someone's cultural background.
In order to be able to provide help, it is sometimes good to know more about the client's background.

Points of attention:
- Being aware that you work, think and feel according to your own frame of reference.
- The counsellor and the client are not the same, but they are equal.
- Do not judge the other.
- Respect the other.
- Know your own boundaries.
- Be open to the other, be able to empathize with the other [empathy].
